KMK Steel Structure Factory Project in Bangladesh

Project introduction

KMK Industrial Limited is investing in a manufacturing base in the Mirsarai Economic Zone, Chattogram, Bangladesh, for the production and export of airline amenity bags and other high-end travel products. The project started in February 2026 and includes 1,600 tonnes of structural steel.

Buildings A and B use large-span portal frames with column-free interiors, allowing cutting, sewing, inspection and warehousing areas to follow the production flow. Structural steel materials for both main factory buildings were delivered in May 2026. Work related to the office building started in October, with its materials delivered in November.

FindingSteel provides detailing, factory fabrication, building envelope system fabrication and site installation technical support. All project materials were delivered by November 2026.

Fabrication and delivery controls

Make the large-span, column-free space work for production

The portal frame must provide the required span while leaving a continuous and flexible interior for cutting, sewing, inspection and warehousing. The detailing therefore has to support the production layout as well as the agreed structural arrangement.

Keep prefabrication, sea freight and site assembly connected

Members are fabricated and prepared for dispatch in Foshan, shipped to Bangladesh in containers and assembled on site with bolted connections. Member marks, packing instructions and the erection sequence need to stay aligned from the workshop to the site.

Specify corrosion protection for the local environment

The project uses an epoxy zinc-rich coating system for the hot, humid and rainy environment. Final surface preparation, coating build-up and dry-film thickness follow the approved drawings and technical specification.

Project delivery stages

Five groups follow the project in sequence: detailing model development, building envelope customisation, workshop steel fabrication, container loading and site erection. The first two groups use a 3D structural model and an architectural rendering to document the technical coordination and material confirmation completed before fabrication.

01

3D model development and detailing review

Before fabrication, FindingSteel and the client used the 3D structural model to review the framing layout and member split plan.

Because the members needed to be shipped to Bangladesh, the team split oversized members and adjusted the plan around transport and site installation conditions. The approved model became the common technical basis for factory fabrication, delivery planning and site installation.

02

Architectural appearance and envelope material confirmation

As the structural scheme progressed, FindingSteel and the client confirmed the building envelope materials, facade treatment and colour scheme together.

After several rounds of discussion, the bright orange exterior was selected. The envelope materials were organised for phased delivery with the steel members. The rendering is for design confirmation only and does not represent the completed project.

03

Portal frame steel structure solution

The travel goods manufacturing base needs continuous space for cutting, sewing, inspection and warehousing. Its large-span, column-free portal frame system allows these areas to be arranged around the production flow.

The steel members are prefabricated, marked and prepared for dispatch in the Foshan workshop. At site, they are lifted and assembled according to the project plan using bolted connections.

04

Container loading, sea freight and site delivery

Container loading requires a joint check of member dimensions, handling methods, available container space and the site erection order. The loading sequence in Foshan is coordinated with the installation plan in Bangladesh.

Site construction, lifting, permits and local safety responsibilities follow the project contract and local arrangements.

05

Corrosion protection and erection in Bangladesh

Bangladesh's hot, humid and rainy conditions affect surface preparation and coating selection. This project uses an epoxy zinc-rich coating system; the final preparation, coating build-up and dry-film thickness follow the approved drawings and technical specification.

At the Mirsarai site, the steel frame is lifted and assembled as the main portal frame structure takes shape.

Bangladesh steel structure project FAQ

Can a steel structure be fabricated in China and shipped to Bangladesh?

Yes. The members can be detailed, fabricated, marked and packed in China before being shipped to Bangladesh in containers. The approved drawings, member sizes and site conditions determine the final member splits, packing plan and erection sequence.

How are fabricated members packed and shipped?

Members are fabricated and trial-assembled in the factory, marked with their own member numbers, then loaded in the sequence the site needs them. Long columns and rafters are arranged to use the container length efficiently, with connections, end plates and loose parts crated separately and listed against the packing list. Surface protection is applied before loading, and the packed set is handed over for sea freight to Chattogram.

What installation support can FindingSteel provide?

FindingSteel can help confirm member marks, erection sequence, connection details and site technical questions. Lifting, construction, permits and local safety responsibilities are defined by the project contract.

How should corrosion protection be specified for Bangladesh?

The specification should account for humidity, rainfall, service exposure, transport and maintenance. Surface preparation, primer, intermediate coat, finish coat and dry-film thickness should be stated in the approved project documents.

What information is needed for a steel structure quotation?

Send the project location, architectural or structural drawings, spans and loads, material standard, coating requirements, delivery destination, site constraints and target schedule.
