1. Documents to Ask for Before You Travel

  • Business licence and scope of business.
  • Quality management certificate (such as ISO 9001) and its validity.
  • Equipment list and workshop layout.
  • Similar project references that can be shared.
  • Sample inspection records: material certificates, dimensional records, NDT reports and so on.

2. Walk the Workshop Along the Process Flow

Follow the production sequence: cutting, assembly and welding, straightening, shot blasting, coating, marking and packing. Walking the flow shows material movement, workstation hand-offs and work-in-progress, giving a far better read on real capacity than looking at finished goods alone.

3. Key Checkpoints: What, Why and How to Ask

  • Material yard: check grade markings and segregated storage; ask how incoming material is identified and traced.
  • Cutting area: check machines in production and whether nesting improves material yield; ask about plate thickness and cutting limits.
  • Welding area: check welder qualifications, welding procedure specifications and the inspection station; ask how weld quality and distortion are controlled.
  • Straightening and measuring: check straightening equipment and that measuring tools are within calibration; ask how critical dimensions are re-checked.
  • Blasting and coating: ask how surface preparation grades and coating systems are executed and recorded.
  • Finished goods and packing: check member marking, packing and container-loading plans; ask how export orders avoid transit deformation and surface damage.

4. Remote Video Audit Checklist

If you cannot visit, ask for a live video tour covering: workshop overview and work-in-progress, cutting/welding/blasting machines running, QC acceptance stations, and ready-to-ship members in the finished goods area. Also request same-day production photos and shipping records as cross-checks, so a fixed showroom view cannot stand in for the real state.

5. Cross-Check Findings Against Quotes and Lead Times

Compare the equipment, work-in-progress and staffing you observed with the lead times and capacity promised in quotations. If promises clearly exceed what you saw, ask for the basis of the production plan and put milestones in the contract. Agree on quality documentation in writing up front to avoid disputes at acceptance.
